anybody ever see this guy on tv?
was he ever a jw?
i've heard that he was, but that might just be rumor.. dan
He sure has a way of taking every single word of the Bible literally. I remember once that he quoted some scripture and said that it was foretelling cars traveling down highways. The scripture had something to do with moving lights, but it was quite a stretch to equate it with cars.
I was just curious as to what others thought of his opinions. I know my wife gets pissed at me when I watch him. She says his body language screams out volumes about him, and not in a positive way!

when we have american jw relatives visit they are frequently shocked at the difference between how they live their lives and how jws over here live.
its almost as if we are from two different religions.. that divide seems to be getting wider.
i have noticed in the past two or three years a noticeable relaxation among british jws.

i just finished watching a show on discovery health channel called blood-cure or killer.
it was a history of blood transfusions, and where that area of medicine is heading in the future.
the first mention of the jw's involved an interview with a bearded man (?

"This is absolutely not true. What made "blood conservation therapy" go forward were the screening problems of the 1970s and 1980s and the lack of donated blood in the system. Also some treatments (such as certain colon cancers but not breast cancer) showed a higher rate of reoccurrence if one was given blood. Thus, some operations tried to perfect a "blood conservation technique"."
Notice that I qualified my statement by stating that it "seems" that JW persistance in refusing blood has actually had some benefits which could help others. This statement was based soley on what was presented on that Discovery channel show. I'm not disagreeing with you in the least, you seem well informed on this subject, compared to my comments based on one show.

I told my wife how my mother used to make us hide in the basement during Halloween, and she almost busted a gut laughing!! I find it amusing that we weren't the only ones. I remember as a kid trying to sneek a peek out a window to see what was going on. My parents almost had a heart attack! In retrospect it reminds me of the scene in "The Ten Commandments" when the 10th plague was being brought upon Egypt's firstborn. Remember that scene? The green mist was going through the streets and the people were in their house ignoring the screams (or "trick-or-treats")from outside.

I've heard the same thing about the rural Quebec congregations. I've heard that brothers show up at meetings to give talks in T shirts, and that the meetings are not taken seriously at all. I don't know if this is true or not. If anybody here is from Quebec, maybe you can shed some light on this rumor.

How one defines a meaningful life is very subjective, sort of like happiness or contentment. What may be meaningful to one person, may be a complete utter waste of time to another. I don't think any of us can really comment on another's consideration of what is meaningful.

"Blood or no blood, if the doctor says I truly need it, I'm going to get it."
That was pretty much the conclusion of the show. If you are dying from blood loss, it's not really that important at the time whether you may get sick from it down the road. They featured a guy from England who was hit by a truck while riding his bicycle. They had to pump gallons of blood into him, but they did keep him alive. Apparently he set the world record for the amount of blood required to save him.
I do agree with you, if blood is necessary, than that's what must be done. Bloodless surgery is a nice option, but not necessarily practical.
